Blackmailing of reservation in trains is severe headache for railway authorities. Booking of seat on an SMS may impose a check on it. You can book a ticket even using your basic phone also. The detailed procedure for booking seats on your mobile phone is given below –

SMS Charges - The service is available to all mobile subscribers/service providers and a uniform rate of Rs.3 is per SMS and payment gateway charges are Rs. 5 for ticket amount upto Rs. 5000 and Rs.10 for more than Rs. 5000 is applicable.

Registration in your bank – For this you will have to approach your branch where your account exists. For this type of activity you need to visit your branch personally. The bank will register and activate  MMID(Mobile Money Identifier) and OTP(One Time Password) for security reasons.

Send an SMS: -Now you can book your ticket. For booking, type an SMS as “BOOKTrain No. Station fromStation toDate(DD/MM) Class(First or Second) Passenger’s NameAgeM/F(Mail or Female” . Now send the  SMS to 139 or 5676714.

Payment - In response to the above SMS, the IRCTC will send you an SMS containing transaction ID. In reply  to this SMS you have to send another SMS as “PAYTransaction ID receivedMMID(Received from bank) OTP(Received from bank)”.

  
Confirmation - Thus your reservation will be confirmed and the ticket amount will be deducted from your bank account. Travel Establishing Your Identity - Finally, on successful booking, you will receive  a message from IRCTC which will be a valid travel document. Please note that on actual date of travel you will have to produce  any of the photo ID cards accepted by railway in original.
